about biodynamics

The term biodynamic psychology refers to the field of knowledge and practices developed by Gerda Boyesen® (1922-2005) from the early 1960¹s that recognises the fundamental importance of restoring the spontaneous movement of life energy in a human being on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. This is achieved through the application of long established clinical treatments, procedures and exercises which give safe opportunities for profound experiences. In biodynamic psychology theory emotional, nervous and psychological problems are considered to have a physical basis, they are seen as embodied. Body and mind are two aspects of the same life process. The life process is connected to and governed by the laws of the "life force". This life force (cosmic energy) moves spontaneously though the living human organism bringing creativity, vitality and movement.

The free and unimpeded streaming of life energy within the human organism is considered to be a) eutonic (i.e. creating by itself a good and healthy tonus of the muscles and other tissues of the body) b) purifying (i.e. naturally cleansing the body tissues of waste products and potential toxics) c) clearing (i.e. bringing with its flow a clarity of mind) and d) healing (restoring a natural inner equilibrium, which is considered basic for health). Biodynamic psychology defends the human birthright of pleasure and understands its spiritual significance. Life energy moves in us as libido, the flow of pleasure; and its vibrations lead us through the physical and the emotional to the cosmic or transpersonal levels. Biodynamic Psychology advocates faith in the essential rightness and aliveness of a persons true nature (the "Primary Personality") and it strongly appreciates the significance of the vegetative processes in all aspects of human life including the basic ability of the human organism to self-regulate and heal itself.

Finally, biodynamic psychology states that there is a previously undescribed mechanism of inner-organismic self-regulation that is connected to the enteric (intestinal) system. This is called "psycho-peristalsis". This function of the intestinal system is seen as a soft and non-cathartic way of thoroughly working out nervous tensions in other words we are born with the inner organismic ability to heal and self-regulate. In a biodynamic session, Mary Molloy works to establish the optimum function of psycho-peristalsis from the first moment. She uses an electronic loudspeaker stethoscope placed on the abdomen to monitor the sounds and "cries" from the guts. The client begins to hear feedback from their own cells. This comes in a stream of sounds (universal language) in response to the touch of the qualified biodynamic practitioner and the body, mind and cell intelligence instinctively begins to re-tune all to homeostasis, balance and real peace.
